Beard Transplantation is the Hair Transplantation

Beard transplantation is the hair transplantation procedure performed on the beard site. The hair grafts are taken from the patient’s own body and placed into the beardless area. In this way, a more aesthetic style, and a youthful impression are obtained. If you have a hair ingrowth problem or partial hair loss condition, you can consider beard transplantation. People with patchy beards can also prefer this application.

Beard Transplant Procedure

Beard transplantation includes different techniques. Typically, there are 3 phases: Pre-operative process (consultation), cosmetic operation, and post-operative care. Beard transplant prices, the duration of beard transplant surgery, and what is experienced during the recovery process vary. Choosing a successful and experienced doctor will be decisive in both the quality of hair transplantation and the healing process.

  • • Consultation: First, a meeting is arranged between the patient and the doctor. The patient conveys his expectations and complaints. The doctor, on the other hand, examines the patient's facial parts such as the chin and neckline. Healthcare professionals may request various tests to understand a patient's general health condition and obtain information about his medical history. It also gives comprehensive information about the treatment process. If there is no health condition that prevents the application and if the patient's expectations are realistic, the day of the operation is decided.
  • • Medical Operation: Hairs are taken from the patient’s own body and implanted on his hairless side which is mostly the neckline or jawline. To explain in more detail, grafts (consisting of hair follicles and skin) are collected from the donor area, which includes hair follicles, and are placed in beardless areas with special techniques. The density, location, and direction of hairs are adjusted by the doctor. As a result of all these, the non-beard regions will be filled with hairs. By that, the beardless facial appearance disappears and a more impressive image is created.
  • • Post-Operative Care: The beard transplant recovery process is not challenging for the patient. Healing begins the next day of the application. Crusts, swelling, and tenderness may be experienced but these side effects will go away within a few days. The patient can shave approximately 7 to 11 days after the surgery. It is important to add that new hairs may fall after about 14 to 20 days. This is one of the expected beard transplantation complications. New hairs will grow back again but this time permanent. In order for the process to be comfortable and trouble-free, you should follow your doctor's recommendations. You should go to doctor appointments, and protect your face area against physical impacts. During the healing process, it is also extremely important to avoid harmful UV rays.
Your donor side will be bandaged till healing is completed. You should do the necessary post operative care to the donor area as you do to the beard transplanted area. Healing might take about 15 days. Your doctor will give you the information in detail.
Since the procedure is performed under anesthesia, you will not feel pain during beard transplantation. You may feel pain after the effect of anesthesia wears off. Your doctor will prescribe you a pain reliever to relieve this temporary side effect.
There are 2 types of methods applied in beard transplantation: FUT and FUE. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is less painful than FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation). Since small incisions are made in the tissues in the FUT approach, the recovery period may take longer.
