Breast Lift
Breast lift surgery aims to remove excess skin and tighten the breast contour to give the breasts a new and youthful appearance. Also known as mastopexy.
Breasts lose their tightness due to some reasons such as pregnancy and aging. In addition, the rings around the nipple called “areola” may also enlarge over time. It is possible to reduce or eliminate these negative effects with breast lift.
Breast Lift Procedure
Breast lift surgery includes different techniques and different types of incisions. The breast and skin structure of the candidate, the size and location of the areola, and the degree of sagging of the breasts are the main factors that determine the procedure.
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. In some cases, sedation may also be preferred, at the discretion of the surgeon and patient. There are some types of incisions; It can be performed around the areola, can be performed vertically from around the areola to the inframammary fold, and also can be performed horizontally along the inframammary fold. When the breast tissue is removed, it is reshaped. The areola and the nipple are placed into their new positions. In some cases, the areola can be reduced. Excess skin can be removed to improve elasticity. The incisions are closed by suturing. Tightening is also done at the same time. Some incision scars may not be visible because of the folds of the breasts. Results can be seen immediately after surgery.
Candidates for Breast Lift
“Am I a good candidate for breast lift surgery?” The question can be answered regarding the following conditions:
- Being healthy and having no weight fluctuations,
- Being a non-smoker,
- Having saggy or small breasts,
- Drooping of the nipples,
- Asymmetry in the breasts.
Breast Lift Surgery Recovery Period
After the breast lift surgery is finished, the dressing is done and the bandage is applied. Support bras may be recommended to prevent swelling. A small tube can be placed under the skin in case of blood or fluid collection. This is a temporary case. The surgeon gives the patient important information such as the date of removal of the stitches, the date of the examination and the points to be considered during the recovery period. Heavy exercises should be avoided in order not to strain the wounds. The new shape of the breasts becomes more evident during the healing. It is important to follow the instructions given by the surgeon, to stable weight and maintain a healthy life, in order not to reduce the effects of the surgery.
